My Current Addiction

The Mass Effect series.  A little late to the party, yes, but that’s how I do things(intentional or otherwise).  I’ve mentioned before that I had beaten the series once and I was going through on my Renegade run.  Still working on that.  Halfway through Mass Effect 2 these choices became easier and I enjoyed the whole thing once more. I also took pictures because that’s how I am.  If I can take screen shots of something I love, I will.  I have a HUGE amount of Skyrim pictures and even Sims 2 pictures(don’t you judge me).

So, rather than bog down people’s computers, phones, or other devices, random pictures below the cut.  Why? Because I find these stuff entertaining and dammit, I am spreadin’ the love.  Anything coherent from these pictures are given at my weird tumblr site and upon request. I just love the weirdness.

I Need an Adult!!

I have been with (roughly) the same D&D group for the past ten years.  We’ve been friends for sometime.  Going through life’s moments and being the social outlet for each other besides work and the coming and goings of the internet.  We’ve lost ‘members’ and gained them as time went by.  The youngest in our group, and the newest addition, is only 22.  The oldest is in her 40s.  It is rather diverse in the age area, which is good!  Best of all, we can all relate to each other and our hobbies (besides Dungeons and Dragons) are similar.

Over the years we’ve been through some amazing stories.  Fun romps to epics that span years both in and out of game.  We’ve been heroes!  We have dealt justice to evil doers.  Raised dragons and communed with gods.  We’ve stopped the end of the world!  There is one thing, though, that is always missing.

Adult situations.

We have our fair share of violence and bloodshed, don’t get me wrong.  Maimings abound, both allies and enemies.  Still, after 10 years anything else considered adult is no where to be seen.  I’ve tried introducing such things as a DM and as a player.  Grendal has as well, with slightly better results.  My first attempt as a DM failed horribly thanks to the players (long story there).  I told the group that ‘adult’ situations are and would be possible within the campaign.  They said they were okay with that.  Everyone seemed to freak out or clam up when it occurred.  The only ones who took charge and reacted in a positive way was Grendal and Gigs (long time player and friend), and they were happy to ‘join in.

The situation wasn’t explicit in the slightest.  Nymphs were presented tot he group and everyone failed their saves (as per the plan).  The two willing players had their characters take ‘their’ Nymphs and disappeared to their respective rooms.  Fade to black.  No description, no sound effects, nothing.  The others?  Confusion mostly.  They just sat there and waited for the scene to continue.  One player actually had their character curl up in the fetal position and rocking back and forth.

What the heck?

I’ve played characters who had sexual tendencies.  Nothing crazy.  One character slept with another and got knocked up (no descriptions).  Another character wanted to sleep with multiple people and seduce/corrupt the knight who had been his best friend since childhood (got close on that one).  My current character, Ruslan, has slept with an NPC and has come close with another.  Nothing explicit.  EVER.

It got me wondering why it never happened.  Such things are present in fantasy novels, movies, and the like.  Is my group just prudish?  I mean, we tell raunchy jokes all the time and two of us (myself included) write smut/erotica and others read such things.  Is this something that is rather common within the gaming realm?

I don’t want a game where sex happens ever other session and where the characters are being solicited endlessly.  Just knowing that it’s there, it is happening, and players can let their characters have a good time would be awesome.  Again, nothing explicit because then is becomes awkward. . . . . especially when the DM is your significant other and you’re getting frisky with a good friend within the game.  Yeah, that was an uncomfortable moment for my friend.  Grendal and I were okay.  I’m not my character and, thankfully, I can separate the emotions when I need it.

I do like the added dimension to the world and characters.  And it’s all optional!  Then again, I create character and put in way too much detail into them.  Parental history, hair/eye color, genetics if need be.  Reasons to why they went with the class they did, their ‘day job’.  Reasons why the do/n’t worship a deity.

I Can’t Crit

So I’ll just be waiting with our gear, okay?

The last few sessions of the current D&D campaign have been boring for me.  My character, Ruslan, has been out of the fight due to the fact that his claim to fame is his ability to crit and, well, we’re fight ghouls and they are uncritable(yeah, new word there).  So, Ruslan being Ruslan and wanting to live to see another day(and his daughter and grandson) decides to Abundant Step back to the group’s gear and mounts to wait the fight out.  He could tell that his strikes were doing nothing, which translates to me only being about to do two points of damage after all was said and done.  Ruslan had witnessed his party members becoming paralyzed and he didn’t want that.  No, sir.  This wasn’t helped by the fact that two of my fellow players made it a point to tell me that I wouldn’t be able to do much in the fight before it started and then most of the group got upset that I ‘noped’ out of the fight.  I understand COMPLETELY but knowing Ruslan he would see his inability to do anything, that he would quickly become a liability, and remove himself from the problem.  He kept watching the fight and I said to the group that if things looked dire he would be back.

Yeah, didn’t help.  The group was still grumbling.  Ruslan has no magic, no enchanted weapon.  He would have just been there to hit and he is not the meat shield by any means.  He is just a beast when it comes to striking(15-20 crit range, whoop whoop) and chucking his pick.  And he gives no shits.

I’ve been slowly working on the story that this campaign has inspired.  Slow going and my mind is jumping from point to point as I’m trying to remember what’s happened so far.  Replacing some characters and changing a few things up a bit.  It’ll be fun once I get things out there.  Plus I’ve been debating about creating this into an e-book just for the hell of it.  Getting to certain points of the story and releasing them for like two or three bucks.  I have the ‘end point’ for the first one set up.  This will probably be easier than my other story which is at it’s half way point for publishing and at 20+ chapters.

Ye gods.

Here’s Your Hippie Dippy Weatherman with Your Hippie Dippy Weather, Man

Yes, another post about how cold it is in the Midwest. That and the fact that every blog I’ve had receives a post with this title. Go me!

But yes, cold as hel today. Negative temperature with wind dropping the temperature even further. Odd thing is, I have yet to have a problem with the weather. True I haven’t stood out for a good length of time and the wind hasn’t been an issue, but it doesn’t feel that bad. And it’s not like I’m bundled up. I have a decent jacket, hat/scarf combo, and gloves. Nothing spectacular. Still, I have faired better than others.

I used to hate the cold. Being born in Hawai’i and then raised in California and Georgia, you would understand. Nowadays I hate the heat and love the chill of Autumn and winter, though my sisters are the complete opposite. I can thank living in the northern parts of Illinois and Grendal being something akin to a Viking for my love. Seriously, others see it. I am not batty.

So I am waiting for the temperature to go back to positive numbers and it will feel like springtime.  Then the raids will begin.

A Cat of a Different Color

I grew up with pets. Cats, dogs, hamsters, ferrets.  I am very much an animal person. Hell, I was on my way to becoming a veterinary technician but that is another story.

I have lovely stories about each and every one of them and they all left their mark on my life. The one cat that I loved the most was a Persian named Itokuzo or Mr Ito for short(he totally earned being a mister). A very laid back cat. Never did much in the way of cat things. Wandered from sleeping spot to sleeping spot. At night he would want attention and open his beautiful amber eyes so you could actually see them. When we first brought him home I remember laying on the floor with a little kit of a cat sleeping on my stomach. So sweet. Made an obvious lasting impression.

Mr Ito passed away a few years ago due to health issues. I was and am upset that I didn’t get to see him one last time. I cried a bit that day and work was hard to fight through.

At the beginning of November Grendal and I were at a friend’s place. Someone stepped outside to have a smoke. When they came back into the apartment building they spotted a cat just chilling. They opened to door to ask our friends about it and the cat sauntered in. He made a dash for the cat food(our friends had a pair already). After a day or two of talking Grendal and I decided to take the cat in and hope our dog and cat(Yuko and Tinker respectively) would accept him. It took a while but it happened.

We have had Peregrin for three months. Our little Pippin is a permanent fixture, being a sweetheart and very laidback. He is sleeping on my stomach right now and I can’t help but think of Mr Ito. Pippin seems very much like him, right down to the strange tail wag.  Almost as if Mr Ito has come back.

Pippin is still a fool of a Took.

Same ol’, Same ol’

So, I totally had an awesome post with pictures and all that jazz that showed what Grendal and I did New Year’s eve. First time ever we went out. Of course that is the time my phone decides it doesn’t want to post. So a verbal recount is what you have to settle for.

Grendal and I decided to fight againat the snow and head out to a friend’s place. We ended up playing two games of Mansions of Madness(first one to die both times), eating some awesome treats a la friend’s lady, rang in the new year with a nice drink(and smoke for the others), and then topped it off with Cards Against Humanity. Overall a nice evening, and it would have seemed more awesome if I had pictures.

And now is the time for resolutions and the whole ‘new me’ ordeal. This time around I am opting out. I want to better myself rather than making a new one. Same goes for the whole resolution thing. That will fall under bettering myself. I will instead make a list of goals, being rather reasonable.

Walk/bike to work
Go hiking more often
Lay out in the yard and watch the clouds
Meander in the garden(which hopefuly works out)
Write more often
Camp somewhere
Have a Lord of the Rings/Hobbit inspired 30th birthday
Go to a place where I can see a ton of stars
Celebrate our one year wedding anniversary
Make more mead

And the big thing: Publish the first half of my novel. Sure it will be a ebook but my dream has always been to have something published. Why wait now?

So my year looks to be full. I hope it will be awesome. Cheers!

EDIT: fixed the post. My phone is hating this place for some reason.  D:
